Back story: I bought more than 2 groceries today so I decided to go to a checkout lane. I’ve learned from my mom that you should always choose the checkout lane with the person with the most groceries because the 2 medium sized carts are actually bigger than the 1 big cart. I entered the lane with the stay at home mom and her 2 boys. The cashier is a young (I’d say about my age) girl. After the cashier scans the groceries, the lady sticks her hand in her pocket and emerges with 30 coupons. The cashier then proceeds to scan the coupons. About that time, an older gentleman approaches the lane and loads his groceries on to the belt. She has trouble with some of the coupons and needed to grab the override keys for about 6 of them. So I’m standing there and the other guy is too. The lady then apologizes to us for taking so much time. I tell her it’s no problem (mainly because I’m amused by this whole thing). She finally pays and leaves.
Then it is my turn. Given that this girl is roughly my age and probably hated the previous customer, I attempted to make her smile.
Me: Hey, how are you doing?
Cashier: I’m good how about you?
Me: I’m doing great.
Cashier: Do you want to carry these? (In reference to the breath mints I bought)
Me: Nah, go ahead and put them in the bag. Nice tie by the way.
Cashier (looks down): Haha… thanks.
She proceeds to tell me my total. I swipe my card and do all the necessary button pushes.
Me: Don’t worry, I don’t have any coupons.
Cashier smiles.
Older Gentleman: You obviously aren’t married then. Just wait.
LOL!!! I love the grocery store.

When I was a young whippersnapper, I didn’t really think much about Sundays. I would go to church then my parents would take me grocery shopping then we would go home, I would have pancakes for breakfast, and I would attempt to play as many video games as I could before school started again on Monday. As I have gotten older, the routine has changed. In high school, I avoided the grocery store like the plague and we ate at a local restaurant which has since closed. In college, I started doing homework rather than play video games and the pancakes returned. Now, the homework/video games have evolved into the traditional Sunday afternoon football. Though the routine has changed, two things have remained constant: 1) church and 2) each Sunday was consistent with a routine. That consistency is why I love Sunday. In a hectic world where things are constantly changing and life is throwing curve balls left and right, it is very comforting that there is at least one day a week that follows a pattern and can provide a vacation from the uncertainty of the rest of the week.
This is my first post. Working on getting this thing in working form.
